3. Using Our Templates with PowerPoint™
Templates To Go is designed to work in PowerPoint™ 2000 or newer. These templates will work in previous releases of PowerPoint™ or any presentation program that can open a .POT file. However,
some features may be limited. For example: PowerPoint™ ‘97 will only
display our animated graphics as still images.
Previewing the Templates
For most users of Internet Explorer™, simply clicking the template image will
allow you to view the template right in Internet Explorer™. Clicking the
back button, will bring you back to the Templates To Go interface.
In most other cases, when you click on the image of the
template, you will be prompted to either save the template or open it in PowerPoint™. Choose which action you wish to perform.
In rare cases, you will only be able to save the template
after clicking on the template image. In this case, you may save the
template to a folder on your computer and then open it in PowerPoint™.
Saving The Templates
If you do not wish to preview the templates, you can save them immediately
by clicking your right mouse button over the template you wish to
save, and then selecting 'Save Target As' from the menu that appears.
Note to Mac users: To directly save the template, click and
hold your mouse button over the template until the menu appears, then choose
'Save Target As' or 'Download link to Disk.'
Copying All Templates to Your Computer
Some users may wish to copy all the templates to a folder on a
computer. This may be done by following the steps below. This
requires 600mb free hard drive space.
1. Click on 'My Computer'
2. Click on the CD-ROM 'AF_TTG'
3. Copy the folder "TTG_templates'
4. Click on the hard drive you wish to copy to
5. Select 'Paste' to start copying - this will take a few minutes to
complete
6. Once completed, you can click the 'start.html' in the templates directory
you copied to browse the templates directly from your hard drive.
Adding our Templates to PowerPoint™'s
Design Templates Directory
You may wish to add some or all of the templates to the directory where PowerPoint™
stores design templates. You can do this by loading the template in PowerPoint™
and then choosing 'Save As...' and selecting design template as the file
type. PowerPoint™ will automatically save it in the Microsoft Templates folder.
All of the templates are ready-to-use, simply open PowerPoint™ and load the template desired and just add your information. In addition to a title page and a slide page, nearly all the templates come
with several additional pages, such as a print page, transitional page and
elements page. Read below how to use each of these additional pages.
.POT Files
The templates on Templates To Go are all saved in .POT file format.
This is the Design Template format specific to PowerPoint™.
Opening Templates with PowerPoint™
There are two ways to use our templates in PowerPoint™.
1. Open the template in PowerPoint™ - This will open all
the pages associated with our template, such as the print page, any
transition pages or element pages. Once open, you can start creating a
new presentation, or copy the elements to another presentation.
2. Apply Design Template - To change the look of a already
created presentation, choose 'Format/Apply Design Template...' This will
change the look of all of your pages without damaging any of the content of
the presentation. Please note: applying one of our templates in this
way will not give you access to the additional pages, such as the print
page, transitional page and elements page. In order to utilize these
pages, either open the template as a separate presentation, or follow the
instructions below for inserting slides from another template.
Combining Slides from One Template to Another
If you wish to combine slides from another template, use the "Insert/Slide From Files…" command in PowerPoint™ and select the slide from the template you wish to include in your presentation.
Using the Slide Master and Title Masters
All of designs on Templates To Go, have both a Slide and Title Master. These master slides control the look of all the slides in your presentation. These masters may be edited by selecting, "View/Master/Slide Master" or "View/Master/Title Master"
Using Print and Transitional Pages
Also included with each template are several additional pages. These pages are designed to be used for printing, transitions between subjects or simply to give more options to the final look of the presentation. These additional pages can be duplicated
by copying the page you wish to use and then pasting it as a new page.
Note: If you want to use one of these additional pages in another presentation, follow the directions for combining templates above.
Using the Elements Page
Each template contains an elements page. You may copy and paste these elements into other pages
of your current presentation or even into other presentations. Most of the elements can be resized without noticeable loss of quality. (Note: Animations may become distorted if sized larger)
Choice of Fonts
We have endeavored to make our templates with a variety of fonts. In some cases, the designer may have used a font that is not available on your system. In that case, PowerPoint™> will automatically insert a font from the fonts available on your
computer. With all templates, you may change the fonts to your favorites.
